Potato Compensation
Some coffees from Burundi and Rwanda contain potato defects. Sometimes defective beans called PTDs are mixed in.
PTD beans look just like other beans, but when roasted and extracted, they have a unique aroma like raw potatoes. I know it's a PTD .
Since it is impossible to remove PTD in advance, we have been avoiding handling beans from Burundi and Rwanda. This is because PTD risks significantly damaging the customer experience.
However, the beans from Burundi and Rwanda are of excellent quality, so we are now ready to start handling them.
but This does not mean that PTD will go away.
Potato Compensation
Therefore, in the unlikely event that you purchase potatoes, we will provide you with a refund. If PTD is detected, we will send you 90g of freshly roasted coffee free of charge.
Please dispose of the affected packaging and continue drinking the beans. No returns are required. Please rest assured that drinking PTD beans will not affect your health.
If you notice a smell that you think is PTD, please let us know by message that it smells like potato. We will check your purchase information and resend the same variety in the same roast.
Our potato countermeasures
All eligible shipments of beans are checked twice, once after roasting and once before packaging, to check for PTD. If they are determined to be PTD, the shipment will be delayed and the beans will be roasted again.
Potato measures for farms
East African coffee producers are not just sitting back and doing nothing about PTD. They are using insect traps and carefully selecting coffee by gravity during processing to minimize the impact of the insects believed to be the cause, and there are reports that PTD cases are decreasing year by year. Some importers are also accepting feedback when PTD occurs.
Even taking PTD into account, beans from Burundi and Rwanda have great potential, and we hope everyone will try them. To eliminate any worries about whether your coffee is actually potato, we promise to exchange it free of charge. Buy with confidence.
